Hello, my Quilters in Paradise!

"Panels and minky and wools, oh my!" This is what Dorothy would say if she landed not in Oz, but here at Quilter's Paradise. Minky is an incredibly soft "micro-fiber" fabric that you just love to touch and cuddle with, and it's perfect for baby blankets, baby clothes, pillows and robes. (I don't know about you, but we've noticed an up-tick in the number of baby quilts people seem to be making right now! Yours truly needs to get going as my oldest, Karen, is expecting her first in February.) And our wools are to "dye" for! We have nearly 40 hand-dyed, felted wools from Blackberry Primitives to choose from ... with more on the way! Speaking of hand-dyed, we also just got in absolutely gorgeous hand-dyed fat quarters, fat eighths and scraps that will brighten and enliven your quilts.

So, where is all this new stuff going along with the 50+ bolts of Batiks and other new fabric lines we've also gotten in? (To give you a taste, pictured below are all the boxes we received on a single day last week.) Well, we've done some rearranging and "home improvement". Mark - and I swear he must have an invisible army of "shelf elves" - made 4 more fabric shelf units. We moved the Longarm machine and some fabric shelves, created a couple new displays, added some more lighting, and voila! A fabric shop makeover!

As I was driving home from the health club early a couple of days ago, I saw all the kids waiting for the school bus. School already? Where'd summer go?! Well, "Back to School" isn't just for kids ... there's always something to learn in this wide, wide world of quilting. So, join us for Meet the Teachers on Friday, September 5th from 6:30 until 9:00. You'll get a chance to learn about a wide range and exciting set of upcoming classes this fall. There'll be time to mix and we'll have snacks and refreshments on hand - plus, you'll get 15% off all non-sale merchandise and a chance to win some raffle door prizes! Want to help those in need and earn some cash doing so, plus make a little elbow room where you sew? Then start going through your stash and participate in our Cash for Stash event being held Saturday, September 13th through Saturday, September 20th. Bring your fabric scraps into our shop and you'll get one Quilter's Paradise dollar for every pound of fabric scraps up to 30 pounds. You may then spend your Quilter's Paradise dollars for any merchandise in the shop. We will donate the fabric scraps to several local organizations who make charity quilts. We ask that you please donate scraps of approximately fat quarter size or larger only.

I'd like to conclude this newsletter by mentioning a product I became aware of a few months ago called the NightWave^TM Sleep Assistant. I know a number of quilters, myself included, who have trouble sleeping through the night. For me, my brain seems to be going a mile-a-minute in the middle of the night and I have trouble getting back to sleep. Fortunately, a former colleague of my husband runs a company that makes the NightWave which helps people fall asleep. It emits a soft bluish-white light that gradually goes on and off at varying intervals, and all I can say is that it calms my mind and lulls me to a restful sleep.
