Connecting People with the Joy of Quilting

Hi <%[First]%> <%[Last]%>,

Hello, my Quilters in Paradise!

First, I'd like to thank all of you who came into our shop during the 2009 Southern California Quilter's Run. Despite some of the hot - and humid - weather, turnout was great and everyone seemed to have a great time ... we sure did! And, please join me in congratulating the winners of the drawing for our shop's run prizes: Taunia McMullan won the prize for adult passport holders and Victoria Stanton won the prize for children passport holders!

For those of you who didn't get enough of doing a quilt run as well as those who prefer smaller runs, we've got just the thing. Yup, the next Row Quilt Run will be held Saturday, August 8th through Saturday, August 15th sponsored by 8 area quilt shops. The theme of this run is Bountiful Harvest and each shop will give away FREE directions to make a different row. Putting them all together makes a terrific 60" x 72" quilt!

To make it easier to make this row quilt - and to help you with a host of projects - our engineers at "Laser Labs" (that would be Mark and me) developed a novel set of laser-cut acrylic square-up templates. Pictured to the right, each set consists of 5 templates measuring 10-1/2", 8-1/2", 6-1/2", 4-1/2" and 2-1/2". They're just the thing not only for cutting perfect squares, but for fussy cutting as well ... Use the appropriate sized template to audition your fabric and then use the next smaller size to do the cutting. And, because the templates are red, it's easy to see where to cut and you can use them to determine the value (light, medium, dark) of your fabric. These templates will normally retail for $25.95, but if you purchase them in our shop during the August Row Quilt Run, you can get them for the special introductory price of $19.95!

So, "What new fabric is in?" you ask. Believe it or not, more Batiks. I lost count, but I think we received nearly 200 bolts of Batiks in July alone, and you almost can't tell by looking at the shelves given how popular they've been. (Mark tells me that in the business world, this is known as a "good problem" to have!) We also just received quite a few more bolts of the Stonehenge collection from Northcott. This line was selected by many of you who attended the "Fabric Buyer for a Day" event we held last January. Perfect for quilted landscapes or as "mixers", we have over 20 bolts of these wonderful mottled and marble textured fabrics that you'll simply have loads of fun choosing just the right ones for your project!

Hard to believe that this Saturday marks the start of August. But that means there's a new coupon for you to take advantage of. Since there are "only" 148 shopping days left until Christmas, we figured now's a great time to let you enjoy savings on our holiday fabric!

August also means that "back to school time" is fast approaching, so we've updated our class schedule through September. And, to help mark this occasion, we've marked a number of our books down 30%! We're delighted to introduce well-known designer and teacher Grace Errea who will be teaching a series of art quilt classes starting with Beginning an Art Quilt. And be sure to check out these upcoming classes: Drunkard's Path Made Simple, Holiday Treasure Chest, Ode to a Christmas Tree, and Mary Lou Rankin's series of interesting clothing design and sewing classes. (To easily find her classes, go to the classes page and sort the class list by teacher.)

Looking ahead, our resident quilting anthropologist and sociologist, Mark, says he has been studying the behaviors of quilters' husbands and will be releasing a definitive taxonomy of the types of quilters' husbands. (With his dry wit, this oughta be interesting. But regardless, all I can say is that he's my type ... today is our 26th wedding anniversary!)
