Connecting People with the Joy of Quilting

Hi <%[First]%> <%[Last]%>,

Hello, my Quilters in Paradise!

Here it is, New Year's Day, and it's already 2010! Can you believe it's been 10 short years since the new millenium was ushered in? But a lot has happened over that time ... I first got my Gammill Longarm Machine in 1999 and just fell in love with Longarm quilting. Remember all the "gloom and doom" in late 1999 about Y2K and how all the computers would crash ... and then didn't? Anyway, for us, 2009 was quite a year with the expansion we undertook and adding lots more fabric and classes to the shop. We eagerly look forward to more fun and friendship in 2010!

To welcome the New Year Year and to show all of you our appreciation for your patronage this past year, we are having our Annual Anniversary Sale on Saturday, January 9th from 10 - 5 and on Sunday, January 10th from 10 - 4. All non-sale items will be 25% off so stop by and take advantage of the savings! On top of this, if you like books and patterns, be sure to check out January's coupon.

For the cat lovers out there, the latest yummy Garden Patch Cat pattern, Yammy Cat, just came in and we've made laser-cut kits. Coming up soon will be Snappliqué Shapes for Valentine's Day and February's table runner from Jeri Kelly's Every Month Kits which I'll be featuring during January's Pizza Night.

Since we've been making templates and what not by laser-cutting acrylic plastic, a number of people have come in asking for various laser-cut things such as: a 5-inch square template for making your own charm squares, a custom-sized Drunkard's path template, a 2-1/2 inch by 24 inch template for easily cutting jelly roll sized strips, and a replacement part for a pet door (no, I'm not making this up!). So, if you have a need to have something simple laser cut out of acrylic, just contact us and we'll see what we can do to help you out!

We've just added February to our calendar and have a lot of new classes coming up in 2010. In addition to our regular ongoing classes:

  • Betty Alofs is continuing the McKenna Ryan Club which introduces McKenna Ryan's recent "Back on the Farm" pattern series,
  • Carok Kaplan is teaching the basics of machine appliqué in Machine Appliqué 101,
  • Pat Wetzel is starting a new Block of the Month,
  • Grace Errea is returning with a series of art quilt classes starting with Beginning an Art Quilt Top,
  • Catherine Wilson is kicking off a monthly class called Sampler Magic - A Sampler Quilt,
  • Wendy Mathson is teaching her ever-popular Storm at Sea - The Wendy Way,
  • Lynn Postulka is starting the next round of smocking classes with Beginning Smocking, and Advanced Smocking,
  • Lyn Mann is continuing teaching from her large repertoire with Lasso the Stars, and
  • Mary Lou Rankin is returning with two garment classes, Right Pattern - Wrong Fabric, and Taking the First Step.

In my last newsletter, I mentioned that due to budget cuts, 2 of the 3 Palomar College classes that we've been holding at our shop for the last few years have been cancelled. The one class that remains is Palomar College with Karen Cunnagin on Wednesdays. I am delighted to say that 4 of the Palomar quilt class teachers will be teaching workshops and classes at our shop starting later in January and early February. Details on all are forthcoming, but as a preview, Karen Cunagin will be holding a series of workshops, Wendy will be teaching a beginning quilting class, Janet Haas will be here periodically on Thursday evenings, and Mary Tabar will be teaching on Tuesday afternoons and Tuesday evenings.

In closing, I want to thank all of you for your generous support and friendship. Having a quilt shop has been a dream come true and I hope that we have been able to bring a little piece of "paradise" to you. All of us at Quilter's Paradise wish you health, prosperity and happiness in the New Year ... and our New Year's resolution is to make 2010 even better for meeting your quilting needs and desires. Oh, and speaking of New Year's resolutions, here are a few that we've adapted from things we've heard at the shop that we thought we'd pass along (not that we particularly want you to make and keep them!) ...

  • I resolve to never again walk into a quilt shop intending to buy only a spool of thread, but leaving with a large bag of fabric and goodies.
  • I resolve to purchase fabric only for specific projects that I will definitely get done in the next couple of months, not just because I like it (and can't live without it).
  • I resolve never to buy more fabric until I get my current project (and the 30 others I've started) done.
