Connecting People with the Joy of Quilting

Hi <%[First]%> <%[Last]%>,

Hello, my Quilters in Paradise!

If Dorothy (of the Wizard of Oz) was on a quilt run, I'm sure she'd be saying "Prizes and bargains and fun ... oh my!" But instead of trying to reach Oz and eventually home, she'd be far more interested in the stops and shops along the way. I'm referring, of course, to the upcoming Sixth Annual San Diego Cruisin’ Quilters Shop Hop being held from Saturday, March 6th through Saturday, March 13th. Like Dorothy, bring along some buddies and see what the 16 participating shops have in store for you. With the wonderful prizes being offered and free flower block pattern each shop is giving away, you're sure to exclaim: "Toto, I've a feeling we're not in Kansas any more!"

We've been real busy in "Laser Land" making more kits. (My husband, Mark, has been telling people who come to our shop that I'm a "Mad Scientist" with all the things that are being "cooked up". He then portrays himself as my loyal assistant, Igor. I don't so much mind him saying "Yes, master" whenever I ask him to do something, but the hunchback, limp-along shuffle has got to go!) Anyway, the first kit, called The Young Buck, (pictured to the right) features a magnificent and handsome young buck that would look simply awesome in a den, family room or study.

Next are 2 wall hanging trios from Jeri Kelly (pictured down and to the left). In keeping with a wildlife theme, the first is (you guessed it!) the Wildlife Trio. And with Easter coming up in a few weeks, we have the soft and cuddly Bunny Trio.

, ,

But what makes bunnies so adorable? Long soft ears, of course! You'll just fall in love with this kit whose delightful design is aptly named Bunny Ears! And if this isn't enough, we also just came out with the Every Month kit for March. , We will be doing this project at this Friday's (2/19) Pizza Night. Of course, you can always work on whatever you want and enjoy the fun and cameraderie! For this Pizza Night, we'll be playing a movie as well.

In my last newsletter, we announced and held our first Finish It Today (FIT) demo led by Wendy Mathson. We didn't know how many people to expect, but boy were we pleasantly surprised when over 60 people braved the rain early Saturday morning to attend! There's still room for the February Finish It Today class being held on February 27th. If you want a laser-cut kit for the class please contact the shop by Wednesday, February 24th. Even if you don't plan to attend the class but want to get the kit, please give us a call. Going forward, to better accommodate everyone, we will have 2 demo sessions each month for you to choose from. For the March FIT project, the demo dates are Saturday, March 6th from 8:30 - 9:30 am and Thursday evening, March 11th from 7:00 - 8:00 pm. By attending the demo, you will receive a free acrylic template set for the project and 15% off all non-sale items in the shop on that day.

As to classes, check out our calendar as we have something going on nearly every day and there's something for everybody. Since our last newsletter, we've added these new classes:

  • If you want to make a stylish jacket you can wear most any time using fat quarters, you'll want to join Wendy Mathson for Take 12 Jacket.
  • If you want to learn or improve your Invisible Machine Appliqué technique, Carol Kaplan's next machine appliqué class, Machine Applique 101, is just the thing. Plus, due to popular demand, she's also giving another class of her last machine appliqué class where you'll learn to machine appliqué using a raw-edge fusible, finished with a tiny "blanket stitch".

    Hope to see you soon!
