Slit 'N SewTM Fabric Calculator

This calculator calculates the amount of fabric required to cut a given number of pieces of a given Slit 'N Sew template. Just specify the Slit 'N Sew template type, which size of that template, which piece in the template set and the total number of pieces that you would like to cut. The calculator will show a picture of how the pieces can be laid out across the width of fabric. It will also automatically provide the width of a strip of fabric from which the pieces can be cut and how many pieces you get from that strip. Click the Calculate Fabric Needs button and the calculator will tell you how many strips you will need to cut and how much yardage you will need. Simply click the Start Over button to start another calculation.

Please note the following:
  1. Fabric is assumed to be non-directional with a width of 43 inches.
  2. You may specify a different strip width and/or a different number of pieces per strip than the provided default values. For example, you may have a different way that you want to layout the pieces for cutting that may be more efficient. Or, you may want to provide more margin in case of error. This is left up to you.
  3. When laying out and cutting pieces from strips, be sure to maintain straight of grain.
  4. Yardage is calculated independently for each unique piece and fabric combination. You may be able to achieve more efficient fabric utilization by combining different pieces using the same fabric, but that is left up to you.
  5. The calculated fabric amount is rounded up to the nearest 1/8 yard (including 1/3 and 2/3 increments).
  6. You may wish to add some additional fabric to the calculations "just in case", the amount to add being up to you.
